What to Expect…. Or maybe more importantly What NOT to Expect!

The first thing I’d like to clarify are some simple and common misconceptions about hypnosis.

1.                  Hypnosis is NOT mind control!

2.                  Hypnosis is NOT an out of body experience.

3.                  Hypnosis is NOT witchcraft or voodoo.

4.                  I am NOT a magician or a witch.

5.                  You will not leave my office and be a different person.

6.                  You will not lose consciousness; I haven’t knocked anyone out yet.

I like to use the analogy of “highway hypnosis” to explain what hypnosis is.   Have you ever driven past a few exits and not remembered passing them?  Have you driven several miles and realized you don’t remember driving them?  This is a form of hypnosis!

What happens during this time is your conscious mind is busy thinking about many different things.  Perhaps you are thinking about what you need to pick up from the grocery store, something that happened at work, or your plans for the weekend.  Whatever you conscious thoughts are, you are not consciously paying attention to driving your vehicle.  So, you know that your conscious and subconscious mind co-exist and work together as a team so that you can go about your daily activities.  Actually over 70% of what we do in a days time is subconscious behavior, things we do but don’t consciously think about.  Considering we operate this way, isn’t it exciting to know that you can address your subconscious mind to create new patterns and behaviors to make positive changes in your life?
